Contributed by colwyn, an ePodunk user. December 10, 2007 Pluses: Apart from a derelict pier Colwyn Bay is a great place to be, to live and to work.
Wherever you are, you are only minutes from the sea and some of the finest golf corses in Wales, we have some great shops, a market, leisure centre, one of the best skate parks in Wales, views to die for of the sea and the mountains, great sea fishing, you can literally walk for miles without crossing a road, accomodation catering for all classes, great pubs and eateries and best of all great people.
Not for me, but we have a great Jet Sky fraternity here, there are fishing trips from Rhos, plenty of seating and kiosks on the prom, where you can get everything from a cupa to fish & chips, buckets and spades, souvenirs and much more.
Great beaches for paddling, sun bathing, well dodging the rain, but what the hell you can't make the biggest sand castles with dry sand can you and while your digging for your castle, you might dig up a snack, that is if you like cockles, or just take in the views. Minuses: I know Brunstrum is hard on speeders, but hey, who has his foot on the gas, not him, stick to the speed limits and no problem, BE AWARE the 10% + 2 mile rule advised by Arrive Alive, is a bit of a con, as when your speedo says 34 you are into 35 and will get done, be safe the 10% + 2 is your safety zone, don't use it as the limit.
Well the Drugies, they are everywhere so you will expect to find them here as well, but they are not as rife as some might have you think, most are from Manchester and Liverpool and only need a little guidance as they only came here to steel a car and can't find their way home.
Dinasaur World has gone from Aeirias Park & soon will go the Boating Lake as some penny pinching Councilors think they can offload it onto some poor unsuspecting fisherman to make it into a private fishing pond, they've stopped the donkey rides, the golf, they are trying to stop Prom Day, the Llandudno Extravegansa, 100 year old traditions are being lost to Health & Safety nerds. A good place to... A GREAT PLACE, anyone who thinks different must be blind, take a drive or a walk along the prom, have a cupa or a pint in the better half of the pier, sit and watch your worries fade away in the calming sea view, if you get fed up with the view try a bit of shopping in the town or the Bay View Shaoping Centre and if you can't find what you want, try Llandudno for some of the best shops along the North Wales Coast, Rhyl has some great shops too, Don't like the shoping, then walk, ride or just site on the prom There are a lot of new flats, sorry Appartments, being built in the Bay, but generally these get rid of the buy to let and HMO's which has got to be good for the area, contrary to some beliefe there are lots of jobs around here, for those who want a job that is, some trade shortages are in the maintenance ares such as Air Conditioning, Gas Engineers especially commercial and catering gas and general repair.
There is a huge amount of rented accomodation, hotels, catering and sevice industries in North Wales and that is where most of the Jobs are, but there are still plenty of other specialist employers such as in education, we have some of the finest Colleges in wales in and around the Bay, such as Banger, Newi, Yale, Llandrillo and many more, we have hospitals to, in almost every town, one of the finest cancer units in the country at Glan Clwyd who do great work, if you realy want something we have it close by, as well as those sea and mountain views, a trully great place to be.
