Bath is a city in Bath and North East Somerset, England. It is in the historic county of Somerset. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.)

The community is on the River Avon.
Former and merged names include:

The city has long been known for its hot springs, which attracted bathers as early as Roman times.
Filming location for:
· 1993 movie, "The Remains of the Day"
· 1995 movie, "Persuasion"

Bath was a bustling literary center in the 19th century, visited by Longfellow, Hawthorne, Wordsworth, and Dickens.

Charles Dickens found inspiration here for his "Bleak House" character, Boythorn, and his "Old Curiosity Shop" character, Little Nell.

Chaucer's Wife of Bath is one of the best-known characters of the Canterbury Tales.
Setting for Jane Austen's novels, "Persuasion" and "Northanger Abbey"
