"More than a city"

The community is at the confluence of the Frome and Avon rivers.
Former and merged names include:
· Brig-stowe
· Bristow
The city developed as a major port. Its fortunes grew in the 17th century with the slave trade.
Filming location for:
· 1991 movie, "Truly Madly Deeply"
In this community, Daniel Defoe met William Selkirk, the man whose adventures inspired "Robinson Crusoe."

William Wordsworth first wrote down the lines of "Tintern Abbey" here.
