From The Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales, (1870-72):

A maritime county in the extreme southwest of England; bounded on the north-north-east by Devon, on all other sides, by the sea.

Tin and copper ores are worked in about 200 mines, with a capital of about ?2,500,000, by upwards of 50,000 hands; the tin ores producing about 5,000 tons a year, and the copper ores about 10,000 tons.
