Durham

From The Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales, (1870-72):
A maritime county in the north-east of England; bounded, on the N, by Northumberland; on the E, by the German ocean; on the S, by Yorkshire; on the W, by Westmoreland and Cumberland.
Its boundary line, along the north, is chiefly the rivers Derwent and Tyne; along the south, chiefly the river Tees.
The number of coal pits, in 1859, in South Durham was 141, - in North Durham and Northumberland, 142; and the amount of output from them was 16,001,125 tons.
Also known as Durhamshire.
