Gloucester is the county town of Gloucestershire, England. It is in the historic county also called Gloucestershire. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.)

The community is on the River Severn.
Received national attention for the serial murders committed by local residents Frederick and Rosemary West. Frederick West hanged himself in prison in 1995, while awaiting trial. His wife was later convicted of 10 counts of murder.
