"Pork pie capital of the world" Melton Mowbray is a town in Leicestershire, England. It is in the historic county also called Leicestershire. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.) The community is on the River Eye.
Melton Mowbray and surrounding areas were the site of the invention of Stilton cheese in the 18th century. It was sold in the community of Stilton, which was located on a major road, hence its association with that community.
