Arbroath is a town in Angus, Scotland. It is in the historic county also called Angus. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.) The community is at the mouth of Brothock Water.
The Declaration of Arbroath, proclaiming Scottish independence from the pope, was written here in 1320.
Local foods: smokies (smoked haddock)
This community was the inspiration for the fictional town of Fairport in Sir Walter Scott's "The Antiquary" as well as the for the fictional town of Redlintie in J.M. Barrie's "Sentimental Tommy."
