Ayr is a town in South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is in the historic county of Ayrshire. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.) The community is at the mouth of the River Ayr.
The community was the inspiration for Robert Burns' "The Brigs of Ayr."
