Banffshire
Banffshire is an historic county of Scotland. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.)
From The Topographical, Statistical, and Historical Gazetteer of Scotland, 1847:
One of the north-east counties of Scotland; bounded on the north by the Moray frith or the German ocean; on the east and south by Aberdeenshire; and on the west by the shires of Inverness and Elgin.
The principal productions of this county are cattle, corn and fish. The cattle are bought up by the dealers, from the 1st of May to the end of November, and sent off in droves to the southern districts. The corn and fish are exported by sea.
Also known as Banff.
