Bishopbriggs is in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is in the historic county of Lanarkshire. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.)
Workers who were employed at nearby quarries lived in tenement houses here in the 19th century.

Bishopbriggs Station opened in 1842, when the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway began service.

Following World War II, the community experienced a building and population boom.

For 11 years, from 1964 to 1975, the community - known as the Burgh of Bishopbriggs - was autonomous.
