Creetown is in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is in the historic county of Kirkcudbrightshire. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.) The community is at the mouth of the River Cree, on Wigtown Bay.
Former and merged names include:
· Creth · Ferrytown of Cree
In the late-18th century, the community experienced a resurgence.
Quarries were established in the area in the 19th century. Some of the granite obtained in Creetown was used in London on River Thames projects.
