Selkirkshire
Selkirkshire is an historic county of Scotland. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.)
From The Topographical, Statistical, and Historical Gazetteer of Scotland, 1847:
A county in the south of Scotland, lying so comparatively near the boundary with England as to be reckoned emphatically a border district.
It is bounded on the north-west by Peebles-shire; on the north by Peebles-shire and Edinburgh-shire; on the north-east, east and south-east by Roxburghshire; on the south by Roxburghshire' and Dumfries-shire; and on the west by Dumfries-shire and Peebles-shire.
The county has no other burgh than Selkirk; no other town that part of Galashiels; and no other village than the little hamlets of Ettrick, Yarrow-feus, and Yarrowford.
