Caerleon is a town in Newport, Wales. It is in the historic county of Monmouthshire. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.) The community is on the River Usk.
Also known as Caerllion.
The Romans built a fortress here in AD 74. Baths and an amphitheatre remain in the town centre.
