Haverfordwest is a town in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is in the historic county also called Pembrokeshire. (For more information about the ancient counties of the UK, see the historic counties page and the place types page.) The community is on the Western Cleddau River.
Also known as Hwlffordd.

Because of its central location in Pembrokeshire, the community developed as a market town.
The plague, carried to Haverfordwest by sailors, brought the town to a standstill in 1651. Of a population of 3,000, an estimated 500 died.
